About Lane College

Lane College is a four-year, historically black college associated with the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, located in Jackson, which is the county seat of Madison County, situated in the US state of Tennessee, a city with a population of more than 59 600 inhabitants, estimated during the 2000 census.

Lane College was founded in 1882, as the `C.M.E. High School`, by the Colored Methodist Episcopal (C.M.E.) Church in America, with the primary purpose to educate newly freed slaves. Times have changed since then, and the college has grown, today having an enrollment of approximately 2000 students, offering them majors and minors in a wide range of study areas.

Athletics

Lane's sports teams are nicknamed the `Dragons` and they compete in NCAA Division II, in several intercollegiate sports, for both men and women, including in football, cross country, baseball, basketball, volleyball and tennis. Their distinctive colors are cardinal and royal blue.
